What is a Door Cylinder (Euro Profile Cylinder)?
This is the light bulb shaped removable barrel which fits through the faceplate of the door handle into the the lock housing. A standard cylinder is double entry, internal and external and when the key is turned the cylinder rotates a cam which operates / throws the lock to engage the multipoint locking system we use. These types of cylinders are known as Euro Profile.
Are Euro Profile Cylinders easy to remove and replace?
Yes, follow these instructions -- Open the door and unscrew the fixing screw which is located on the face plate of the lock housing, in line with the bottom of the euro profile cylinder. Put the key into one side and apply pressure to the other side. Turn the key one way and the cylinder should slide out, if it does not - turn the key the other way and the cylinder should slide out. -- Take your new cylinder and insert a key and turn it until the cam is in-line with the body of the cylinder. Insert the new cylinder into position and replace the fixing screw. Check the operation of the lock before you close the door.
Can I get keys cut locally for your cylinders?
All key cutting shops will carry blanks to suit euro cylinders.
Can I have more than one door keyed alike?
We offer a cylinders from stock in Pairs ideal for applications such as French Doors where locks are side by side (keyed alike).
Do you supply other cylinders such as Thumb Turn ?
We can supply cylinders which are thumb turn inside and keyed outside if required.
